 Dear Friends -

This is a reminder that on Tuesday, Jan 26 at 12 pm Pacific / 3 pm Eastern we will hold the first in our series of monthly calls to discuss the US Social Forum, and plans for funder activities in Detroit in June.

During this initial funder-only conversation we will present a brief historical and political overview of the social forum process and discuss the importance of grassroots organizing and of the USSF to social justice philanthropy.  Funders involved in the process will also discuss what we mean by "accompanying" the USSF, why we’re invested in this effort, and how others in the funding community can be part of this initiative.

A link to future calls with USSF organizers and to other relevant documents along with additional information sent in the earlier email are posted below.

We hope you will join us on Tuesday - please contact  melissa@fntg.org for call-in numbers.

All the best,
Mark

Join Funders "Accompanying" the US Social Forum process
- Participate in monthly funder discussions -
- Join FNTG's delegation to Detroit from June 21-26 -

Inspired by the World Social Forum and the success of the first USSF in Atlanta in 1997, funders who support organizing and cross sectoral alliance building around issues as diverse as human rights, climate, community empowerment, culture, sustainable food systems, immigration and economic justice have been working together to support the social forum process.

"“People world-wide know that another world is needed. The Social Forum movement believes that is possible. At the US Social Forum people from all over the country gather to think about what kind of world is needed and how we can get there.”"  [See http://www.ussf2010.org for more information]

Please join us on MONTHLY SOCIAL FORUM LEARNING CALLS on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 3 pm Eastern between now and June to explore the goals and potential of this global process.  Call descriptions and presenters can be found here.

And consider being part of FNTG's FUNDER DELEGATION TO THE 2ND USSF in Detroit from June 21 to 26, to gain insights from key organizers of the forum processes and engage in discussions with funders sharing similar strategic interests and funding priorities.

Nearly 60 funders participated in FNTG’s delegation to the USSF in 1997, and we expect a similar number to join us in Detroit.  Working with forum organizers we have pre-booked hotel rooms at discounted rates close to the Cobo Convention Center.  Grantmakers have been working together to support the forum itself, to support local communities hosting the forum in Detroit, and to enable grantees to participate in this exciting process.

Please join us!

To register for our USSF call series and to indicate your interest in the June delegation, please contact: melissa@fntg.org (full registration details will be posted soon).

For more information on any of this, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best,

Mark
